Reading Resources

The exercises appearing on this web page are excerpted from a textbook I am currently working on called Reading Resources. Designed to function like a miniature composition handbook, this text introduces students to all of the terms typically used in reading instruction. More importantly, each term is followed by exercises that show students how the term applies to reading for meaning. Purposely short on explanations and long on exercises, Reading Resources is designed for use in reading labs or for instructors who teach without the aid of a textbook and are therefore constantly in search of new material. For the most part, all of the explanations and exercises displayed on this site reflect my desire to tinker with more traditional forms of both explanation and practice. My hope is that reading instructors will make copies from these pages, use the sample exercises with their students, and then e-mail me their comments.

This site will be updated on a bi-monthly basis, and each update will introduce a new series of sample exercises to accompany each term. The topics listed below are the ones I currently intend to cover. However, I would be interested in getting suggestions about other topics instructors would like to see included.
